Partner 3: KTUFCEA

Kaunas is the second most populous city in Lithuania located in the center of the country. The Faculty of Civil Engineering and Architecture of Kaunas University of Technology (https://fcea.ktu.edu/) offers the following programmes:

Architecture integrated study programme that offers Master of Arts Degree (KTUFCEA). Programme workload is 300 ECTS.

Architecture second cycle study programme that offers Master of Arts Degree (KTUFCEA). Programme workload is 120 ECTS.

Sustainable and Energy Efficient Buildings second cycle study programme that offers Master of Engineering Degree (KTUFCEA). Programme workload is 90 ECTS.

Structural and Building Products Engineering second cycle study programme that offers Master of Engineering Degree (KTUFCEA). Programme workload is 90 ECTS.

History and Theory of Arts third cycle study programme (doctorate programme) that offers Doctor of Science Degree in Humanities (KTUFCEA). Programme duration 4 years.

Civil engineering third cycle study programme (doctorate programme) that offers Doctor of Science Degree in Technological Sciences (KTUFCEA). Programme duration 4 years.

Partnership with Department of Cultural Heritage Under the Ministry of Culture and Kaunas District Municipality. KTUFCEA is a member of Nordic Baltic Academy of Architecture and European Association for Architecture Education

The academic complementarity among the partner institutions results in a holistic sum of the experience of each one:

ETSASS gives its students the diploma of Master of Architecture that in Spain confers all the professional attributions related to architecture and urbanism. Consequently, it disposes of teachers to cover all the areas involved (design, structures, urban planning and construction processes). However, the ETSASS teachers with the highest academic level are related to the "material" component of architecture and urbanism. A relevant part of these professors (members of the PhD Programmes) participates in ARURCOHE in the places where they are experts, constituting the main contribution of the ETSASS to the Consortium. As can be seen in the Academic Planning page ETSASS has a relevant presence in Block 1, participating in Block 2 in a smaller way. The presence in Block 3 (Master Dissertation) is shared under the same conditions as POLITO and KTUFCEA.

POLITO offers a specific Master's Degree in Architecture for Heritage, as well as a PhD in Studies for Architectural Heritage, which can become a basin from which to draw both students for the ARURCOHE Master, and teachers. In particular, the teachers of POLITO who are proposed for the courses provided in the plan of studies of ARURCOHE are experts in the history of architecture, advanced technologies for the relief of architecture, technologies for recovery, architectural restoration and architectural design theory and design. According to their competencies, they participate in the three Blocks of ARURCOHE in a fairly homogeneous way. POLITO´s experience on the design of the 20th-century architecture (ie. TIMEPAC H2020 project) makes him appropriate to coordinate Path1 in Block 3 "Sustainable new constructions in an existing urban heritage environment".

Kaunas University of Technology Faculty of Civil Engineering and Architecture (FCEA) has integrated and second cycle study programmes that give the diploma of Master of Arts in the field of Architecture and prepares Master of Engineering Sciences in the field of civil engineering (study programmes: Sustainable and Energy Efficient Buildings, Structural and Building Products Engineering, Construction Management). The teachers from KTUFCEA are experts in the fields of architecture (history, theory, and design), urban planning (research and modelling), cultural heritage protection and management, civil engineering issues of heritage buildings (energy efficiency, indoor environment quality, etc.) and digitalization of construction. According to their field of expertise, they mostly participate in Block 2 and less in Block 1. The contribution from KTUFCEA on citizens participation/engagement, their holistic understanding of urban needs as well as their experience on sustainability brought from its Sustainable and Energy Efficient Buildings second cycle study programme, makes KTUFCEA appropriate to coordinate Path 2 in Block 3 "Sustainable refurbishment and maintenance of existing buildings or urban places with heritage values".

The different sensibilities about the architects and civil engineers attributions in different zones in Europe are covered.
